A non-profit community and cultural organization serving Canada's Soninke community and open to everyone.
Our story
Where we come from
Soninkara Kafo Canada brings together members of the Soninke community in Montréal who wish to preserve and share their heritage.
Founded in Montréal in 2006, Soninkara Kafo Canada was born from the desire of members of the Soninke community to come together to preserve their cultural heritage, strengthen bonds of solidarity and pass their language and traditions on to future generations.
Over the years, the association has become a place of meeting, transmission and sharing, bringing different generations together through cultural, educational and community activities.
Today, Soninkara Kafo Canada carries on this mission by helping Soninke culture shine in Canada, while encouraging openness, dialogue and participation in Québec and Canadian society.

The Soninke community
One language, one culture, one memory
The Soninke people, present notably in Mali, Senegal, Mauritania, the Gambia and Guinea as well as in many diaspora communities, carry a rich culture and a living language, Soninke.
In Canada, passing on culture and language is essential so that children and young people can know their roots, talk with their elders and enrich their new home with their heritage. This is the role Soninkara Kafo Canada has taken on.

Soninke Youth
The Youth Committee
Created in 2023 on the initiative of Fatoumata Gakou, current president, the Soninkara Kafo Canada Youth Committee aims to give young people an active role within the association and the community.
